A fixed-gear bicycle (or fixed-wheel
bicycle, commonly known in some places as a fixie) is a bicycle that
has a drive train with no freewheel mechanism.
The free wheel was developed early in the history of bicycle design but the
fixed-gear bicycle remained the standard track racing design. More recently the
"fixie" has become a popular alternative among mainly urban cyclists,
offering the advantages of simplicity compared with the standard multi-geared
bicycle.
Currently, I am riding a fixie around my city when I have
some spare time or one of my friends asks me to go on a trip with them. I use
my bike to go wherever I want. I sometimes go to school riding my bike even if
my mother is against it (HAHAHAHA thug life XD).
Riding through traffic without brakes is very dangerous.
If you intend to ride on city roads full of cars, you should know how to stop
your fixie and avoid being clipped by passing cars. There are some events that
I almost got hit by a car because I crossed an intersection without stopping.
My heart raced as I pedaled faster to avoid the car. There was also one time I
crashed on to the sidewalk just to avoid a crossing van. I decided to crash on
the sidewalk instead of ramming the van because I do not want to pay any
damages. I did not care about my condition after my crash, I immediately looked
at my bike if there was something broken or maybe a scratch on the paint job
(priorities first HAHAHA).
Riding a fixed-gear bike is a whole new experience. I am
recommending it to other bike riders to try and ride one. My friends and I are
riding fixed-gears together just for fun. When I go to school riding my bike,
my friends are always asking me if they can ride my bike. I always let my
friends ride my bike.
Riding a fixie is
life threatening but I am willing to take the risk just to have fun. I will do
anything for the things (or people HAHAHA #hugot) I love even if it means
risking my safety or threatening my life.
